Kindergarten Teacher

RaShelle Johnson

Rashelle Johnson is excited to join the St. Andrew’s School family as a Kindergarten teacher! With 26 years of experience in education, she has taught students from PreK through 2nd grade, including 22 years with Newport News Public Schools and four years with Henrico County Public Schools.

Rashelle earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hampton University and her Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is passionate about nurturing the whole child and creating meaningful opportunities for students to grow as confident, curious, lifelong learners.

St. Andrew’s holistic approach to education immediately resonated with Rashelle. She especially loves that students have opportunities to learn Spanish and violin, as she learned to play the violin as a child herself. She is excited to bring her experience and passion for early childhood education to SAS and nurture the school’s youngest learners.

Born and raised in Richmond, Rashelle returned to the area for graduate school after spending 22 years living and working in Hampton Roads. Outside of school, the beach is her happy place! She enjoys cooking, crafting, visiting farmers markets, and all things whimsical. Her favorite color is blue, though she also loves pink, lavender, and sage.

Rashelle is thrilled to be part of the St. Andrew’s community and looks forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing, and making memories with her Kindergarten students!

First Grade Teacher

Ally Kapasakis

Ally brings a wide range of experience working with young learners, having previously taught Kindergarten in Chesterfield County, art classes at her friend’s school, preschool at an outdoor nature-based school, and even gym classes for toddlers! She also served for many years as the Activities Director at Camp Chanco.

Ally earned her BFA in Creative Writing with a Certificate in Publishing from UNC Wilmington. She was drawn to St. Andrew’s because of its strong sense of community and deep commitment to social-emotional learning. A passionate advocate for independent schools, Ally is thrilled to be teaching 1st grade and connecting with her students.

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys paddleboarding, going to the movies, and spending time outdoors.

Second Grade Teacher

George Frowert

Mr. Frowert brings over 30 years of experience in elementary special education, having taught in the New Kent, Henrico, and Hanover County Public School systems. He holds both a B.A. in English and a Master’s in Teaching (Special Education) from Virginia Commonwealth University. After serving as a fourth-grade teacher at SAS this past year, Mr. Frowert is looking forward to teaching the second-grade Otters and helping them learn and succeed.

Mr. Frowert is passionate about helping all children thrive and finds great joy in watching his students grow academically. Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, he is the proud father of two young adults. He and his wife celebrated their eldest son’s wedding this past summer, and they look forward to seeing their youngest son graduate from James Madison University in the winter of 2026.

Third Grade Teacher

Rotasha Mayweather

With a background spanning both education and the airline industry, Rotasha brings a wealth of experience and a passion for creating welcoming, engaging learning environments. After nine years in the airline industry, she transitioned to education in 2015 and has spent the past eleven years working in schools in rural communities and small cities.

She earned her degree in Psychology, which has given her a strong foundation in human development, behavior, learning, and the importance of building meaningful relationships. Throughout her career in education, she has come to believe that teaching is about more than academic skills—it is about creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can thrive.

While relocating from Texas to the Richmond area, Rotasha discovered St. Andrew’s through the school’s website and was drawn to its mission and community. She is excited to begin this new adventure and become part of the St. Andrew’s family.

Outside of school, Rotasha enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and discovering new places, experiences, and cultures. At home, she enjoys baking, reading, painting, and working on creative projects.

Fifth Grade Teacher

MaSheta Ellison

MaSheta has taught fifth grade at St. Andrew’s School since 2007, and she loves that St. Andrew’s allows her to provide engaging hands-on lessons and positive real life experiences that help shape the whole student. She received a B.A. in English/Secondary Education from VUU, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University, and a Master’s in Teaching and Learning English from Liberty University. Before coming to St. Andrew’s, she taught for six years. MaSheta is a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and attended North Accomack Elementary School. She lives with her husband, two children, and their dog, Chase. Fun fact: She practices old cheerleading routines from high school for fun.

Manager of Performing Arts

Caitlin Barry

Caitlin has been a Suzuki violin teacher for nearly 20 years, managing her own private studio and creating opportunities for students to discover the joy of music. Her experience also includes managing the Youth Community Strings program for the Richmond Symphony, teaching elementary orchestra with Richmond Public Schools, and leading Music Together classes in RPS preschool programs.

She holds a degree in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and has completed training in Suzuki, String Sprouts, and Music Together In-School programs.

She believes every child deserves access to a meaningful music education. Throughout her career, she has looked for ways to expand opportunities and create accessible music programs for young people. She has admired St. Andrew’s violin program from afar for many years and is honored to continue the work of this very special program. She is excited to help students discover the confidence, creativity, and joy that music can bring.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys performing whenever she can and has had the opportunity to tour and perform across the country. She loves spending time by the river, taking a river walk each day, reading, practicing yoga, enjoying nature, and spending time with her two daughters and two cats.

School Counselor

Phyllis Edwards

With a dynamic career spanning teaching, counseling, and leadership, Phyllis Edwards brings a deep passion for education, student well-being, and community engagement to every role. A proud graduate of the University of Richmond, Phyllis Edwards earned a double major in Spanish and Sociology, with a minor in English, and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University.

Phyllis Edwards began her educational journey as a Residential Life Counselor and Coordinator at Seton Hall University. After serving at the college level, she became a dedicated Spanish and English teacher, earning the prestigious honor of Teacher of the Year in two different school systems across Sussex County and Hopewell City Public Schools and she was Middle School Teacher of the Year for Chesterfield County Public Schools. Her love for working directly with students led her to become a school counselor, where she expanded her impact by serving as the Youth Development Coordinator Coordinator for PreK-12 School Counseling and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for Manassas City Public Schools.

A committed advocate for professional development and mentorship, Phyllis Edwards served on the Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) Board for ten years, including as the Mentoring Coordinator. For 14 years, she has shared her knowledge and enthusiasm by presenting at numerous VSCA conferences, including the honor of being a Pre-Conference Speaker and featured presenter at both the Summer and Spring Academies.

Her work at Chatham Hall as Director of Counseling Services reignited her calling to serve within a faith-based educational setting, further enriching her approach to student support. Most recently, she served as a Mental Health Counselor and Well-Being Services Specialist at All Cares, LLC, where she provided direct mental health services and holistic wellness support.

Now thrilled to join the community at St. Andrew’s, Phyllis Edwards looks forward to getting to know the Otters and their families while continuing to inspire, lead, and serve. Beyond her professional life, she is a lifelong learner and traveler who studied abroad at the University of Salamanca in Spain and completed a graduate internship at the University of California, Berkeley. She is also an enthusiastic fan of tennis, reading, learning, traveling, Kermit the Frog, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Boston Red Sox.
