Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is grounded in the belief that students need to understand themselves and others in order to realize their potential and respectfully engage with others. SEL provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students’ ability to succeed in school, careers, and life.

St. Andrew’s School offers a variety of SEL programming that supports students’ prosocial (behaviors that are intended to help other people) interactions. All students have access to weekly programming that is designed to develop students’ self-knowledge and ability to engage responsively with others. Additionally, the school social worker offers small group and individual sessions with students who have specific needs.

St. Andrew’s school-wide GRACE Expectations (a set of community norms that promote learning, relationship building, and caring for the community) and our schoolwide motto, “Growing with GRACE,” are integrated into all aspects of school life and encompassed in the acronym GRACE:

  • Grow your brain
  • Respond with kindness
  • Accept differences
  • Care for the community
  • Exercise self-control
