Recently, St. Andrew’s School (SAS) nominated Afton Chemical Corporation for the Outstanding Organizational Partner Award and honored them at National Philanthropy Day.
“Afton Chemical deeply supports a breadth of organizations in the community and are a philanthropic force,” Cyndy Weldon-Lassiter, Head of School at SAS, says. “They’re focused on helping children and families through a variety of initiatives. The culture of their organization is to believe in community investment.”
The Outstanding Organizational Partner Award nomination focused on the employee run Cans for Kids Committee that Afton Chemical has been spearheading for more than 20 years. The Committee takes the proceeds from their scrap aluminum sales and turns the proceeds into gifts for children during the holiday season – reaching over 900 SAS families.
“We love to support our community, and we look forward to continuing to grow and understand what St. Andrew’s School needs beyond gifts,” says Emily Gilbert, an Afton Chemical employee and member of the Cans for Kids Committee.
Afton Chemical has supported numerous organizations in the greater Richmond area including: Angel Tree, the American Red Cross, the United Way, FeedMore, Virginia Dare Multiple Sclerosis Bike Tour, and Leukemia Light the Night, to name a few.
