Leslie Souleret has been a volunteer at St. Andrew’s School in many capacities – leading a book club, tutoring, being a Lunch Buddy, and managing our Take a Book, Leave a Book bookshelves.
“St. Andrew’s School is really a special place. I’m impressed with the environment, the teachers, and the learning and creativity that goes on here,” she says. “I’m really impressed with the whole child approach to education.”
When Leslie began volunteering last year, she hosted a book club with second through fourth graders.
“I really enjoyed that. We read books and discussed them,” she says.
This year, she organizes the books on the Take a Book, Leave a Book bookshelves, keeping the selection updated and interesting.
She also meets with two second graders each week for Lunch Buddies, which she really enjoys.
“The students are just so enthusiastic and excited about everything,” she says.
For years, Leslie worked in the Hanover County School system, and being “semi-retired” she wanted to still work with children.
“Elementary age is my favorite to work with, because they’re so interested in learning. If you catch them at the right age, it can keep snowballing and I’m trying to do that,” she says.
